Hi, John:

I really like working with schefflera....do you know what the cultivar is? Is it an S. arboricola - the leaves should be fairly small. Regarding the woodiness of the trunks, I am afraid it will take some time for that to occur to the best of my knwoledge. I have been fortunate to have access to older nursery stock with which to work....In that regard I would contact Jerry Meislik (if you google his name his website should come up). If you can't find his address send me a pm.

Here is a variegated small one I have been working on for a few years.....they bud back like crazy and are very forgiving....full sun is appreciated during the growing season.

Hope this helps.schefflera Varieg10

Best of luck with your new acquisition.
