Mini Cascade Stand Empty Mini Cascade Stand

Post  bonsaisr Tue Nov 19, 2013 6:01 pm

Our club had a presentation on shohin bonsai, so I put my whole stand on the show table. The speaker critiqued it up one side & down the other, which was what I wanted. One suggestion was for my Duck Foot ivy cascade in a 3" x 4" square pot. He said rather than have the tree located directly on a corner of the stand, I should have it on a little cascade stand placed on the shohin stand. Where can I get a cascade stand about 3" to 3.5" wide? EBay had nothing. One place has a root stand the right size, but it's more than I want to spend. I could use a block of wood, but it would be too clunky. Any suggestions? scratch

A hardwood (walnut/maple/hickory) cube, finished on all sides wouldn't be clunky.  Any woodworker should be able to do one for you. Otherwise, small, tallish stands are quite costly.

I had the same problem a while ago so I decided to make my own stands. A dry piece of wood, a Dremel, a few carving bits and a lot of time is all you need. Some artistic sense doesn't hurt either ... that's the tough part.

Those are really nice Angelo! I wish I had the time/talent to make a few of these myself.

speaking of size, I always appreciate photographs with something contained within that gives us an exact concept of size. The lighter works well as does a standard "pop" can. thank-you for doing that. Wonderful workmanship! Smile
