surprising Sabina
Hello everybody
I have this sabina in my place since 2009, resulting to a trade for other plant with a friend.
When my friend propose me this plant I seen as a challenge for me.
The best quality at this moment was the laminar shari follow the line trunk until the green mass.
This tree was full of qualities but difficult to combine all together to form a beautiful bonsai.
The defects are the similar sizes of the two trunks, the nebari and the monotony of the first part of the tree.
So The challenge was launched!!!
so I decided to peek under their skirts and see other possibilities to improve all the qualities of the tree in one design.
And to do that I need to transplant the tree to see all the picture of the future bonsai.
I brook the pot to not damage the roots.
and this is 2 years after re-pot the tree...
and after a couple of hours this is the result of the first stile.
I do not wire until all the detail because I think is bad to the tree wire all the little branches, I prefer to wire again nest year an obtain this one a good grow and prepare better the pads to a second stile.
Hope You like
best regards

Sweet... I love the deadwood. I am a sucker for board shaped deadwood on Junipers.
Whats up with the hammer? Did you actually use it on the tree, or is it for proportion?
Great work.

Very out of the box thinking and an equally jaw dropping result. Great work Viriato.....

Almost unbelievable transformation!
Congratulations!
And all that lower trunk was hidden into the initial ceramic flower pot?

Hi Viriato Oliveira,
Thank you very much for sharing this magnificent transformation. I have seen a lot of masterly works on this forum, but I like this one the best!
I could not work out the nature of the gap being circled? Was it a big cut? Or nature split occured before it was collected?
Thank you and best regards.

Re: surprising Sabina
Thanks all for the good words.
suburbia the hammer was just to break the pot!
All the dead wood is natural, the only think I made on it was wash the dead wood and clean with brushes.
I made a very archaic diagram to show how the tree was placed in the initial pot. If you think about it, the tree was planted pushed to one of the sides of the pot because the curve of the trunk/roots.
daiviet - the yellow circle shows the back of the gap you tell.I think with this picture you can understand the way how you see that from the front. the difference was, in the front you see a lot of the dead wood (the continuation of the laminar shari), and create a impression that is a hole.
All in this sabina is natural, and the "Gap" you tell is in fact a elbow created from the necessity of tree in nature respond to the elements.
The actual front that is the face turned to the soil...so is difficult show, before re-pot in the cascade style, the characteristics put in evidence after re-pot.
One more time thanks to all.
Bests regards

Re: surprising Sabina
Hello Viriato. I love the orientation but the two masses of foliage lead in opposite directions? I would much rather see dominance in the crown leading down and pushing the tree into cascade.
