Re: RandyB's Tree
There is no doubt this tree is massive and expensive. Is there a chance that we can see better pics as the first pic depicts to me that the foliage (branch) was placed there. I know this is not what you are trying to portrait but that is what is coming across.
Is this a Tanuki? Where is the live vein??

the vein
hi Rich!
This tree is CA juniper, the vein is righ underneath of the frist branch. I just had a frist digital camera so the portrait is not so good, i will get better next time..

Nice tree. But it deserves a nicer background. And what do you think off removing the top branch to make the tree more compact?

Hi Randy,
I like your CA Juniper and I think you should remove the top bit like others have suggested. I think you should see more of the live vein though. It looks to me like you might have gotten a bit of lime sulpher on it. You can clean it off a bit. Had you ever thought about the foliage going the other way? This is what the tree would do in nature. The reason the live vein is where it is at is because it was protected from the elements.
What you have done is very Kimura like!

Re: RandyB's Tree
Great tree Randy.
An additional idea for creating a more compact image is to style the foliage pads on both sides of the dead wood in order to tie the two elements together. The image might also be enhanced if the orientation is adjusted slightly to expose more of the live vein.
I look forward to seeing it in a couple of years.
