dwarf burning bush

Post  giga on Tue Dec 11, 2012 8:08 pm

I just bought nursery stock of a dwarf burning bush and it has great potential for a shohin. When the best time to wire and prune the unwated brached on this species-I can't seem to find any good info on them?

Dwarf burning bush (Euonymus alata) takes really well to hard pruning. I see them hedged all the time around the city. Like with most broadleaved trees, the best time to prune and wire would be in the spring just as the buds are beginning to swell.
I'm sure others on this board have more in depth info for you but you can check out Walter Pall's blog http://walter-pall-bonsai.blogspot.com/2012/11/euonymus-1.html and see some examples of his burning bush, although I believe his are E. eurpaeus.

Good luck!
