Can I repot Azaleas? Empty Can I repot Azaleas?

I got a good deal on some Azaleas from a Walmart Garden center, and I'd like to get them out of the usual black pots. There are tons of those little fertilizer balls in the soil, and I'm sure they're probably pretty pot bound. I'm not looking to do any serious root removal. I just want to clean up any dead stuff and wash them off, then put them in dish tubs with more better soil. Do you think this is still doable in zone 10a?

If you don't have to worry about heavy frost or freezing temperatures, fall is a great time to transplant with minor root work. If you can bring your plant into an unheated area when you have a frost or freeze warning, I would go ahead and transplant them. Your plants' roots will continue to grow as long as the high temperature is 55 F or above. That's probably dead of winter temps down there, isn't it?

Day time temperature is usually 60s or 70s during winter. If it drops below 50 it would only be in the early morning.
