Grown very quickly. Had it a year or so.
Not sure whether I should lose the bottom branch or not? First picture: 26/05/11.
Any advice or ideas would be good.
Thanks Sam

i dont know about this one... looks like you're going to have branches that will be to thick, real fast, in comparison to the thickness of the trunk. In time that will not look very good nor very convincing. maybe the wiring is too soon, and should have focused on thickening the trunk some more first. Just my opinion.

Maybe I should grow out the lowest branch to thicken out the bottom half of the trunk and then remove it. If I put it back in the ground for the next year I have no doubt it will thicken fast. ???

I think you've answered your question yourself... yes, back in the ground, but that is only if you want to follow my advice. If you grow it for 2 or 3 years in the ground it will thicken yes, but you'll have to loose most of the branches you've wired so far... you would put it in the ground to let it grow freely, otherwise it wont thicken all that much, even if you only let that bottom branch grow freely, except if you dont prune that branch as long as its in the ground. But then again after 1 or 2 years all the energy will transfer into that branch, and the other (if still wired) branches will either stop growing vigourously or worse...die off in the long run.
I would opt for free growth in the ground the first year, and then controlled free growth for another year or 2 years (prune it only randomly, max. 1 time a year).
