Question,

What is the use of scaring the branch on the last two pictures?

Hi Peter
It was only a control of. No complete removal of only a half-life branches. Removal will only be possible in August. Very Happy

Hi Luc
Weakening of the supply branches will gradually link flow root - a new branch.

Pavel, what is the best time of year to do this? Before the buds extend in early spring?

Hi Rich
Sorry, the answer for a long time. Yes, it is best for me to early bud growth. Then he wants warmth and tree growth.

Pines tend to swell or callous and put on weight to the branches in late July, early August. Any time just before is good.

Hi All...

I'm going to hijack Pavels thread... Hope you don't mind Pavel =)

This is a progression of what I believe to be this very tree... Purchased by myself, at Burrs 2011.

Taken from ... Burrs-so it begins 2011 thread.

For me, the weekend was about enhancing my experience in working with Pine. The opportunity to work with Pavel and some of his fantastic Yamadori from concept to finish was just outstanding:

The Yamadori:-
Collected by Pavel in 2008 and looked after for 4 growin seasons.

Pinus sylvestris "sumo?" 2011 - grafting branches Dscf1119

We then talked about the concept, and what the possibilities were. He then grabbed a sketch pad and proceeded to Draw and amazing concept drawing for me to work towards!

Pinus sylvestris "sumo?" 2011 - grafting branches Dscf1120

Needle prune and tidying of branches.

Pinus sylvestris "sumo?" 2011 - grafting branches Dscf1121

Raffia and insulation tape for the major branches, and wiring everything to the tip. Being careful of the important back buds

Pinus sylvestris "sumo?" 2011 - grafting branches Dscf1122

In-experience has me put the wrong thickness of wire to the lighter branches, after a brief talking too by Pavel see's me removing the wiring and taking me another 2hrs into the Midnight Hour to do it all over again! After finishing this, folk starting returning back in from the pub.

"COME ON Bryan" Pavel shouts, "lets do this!!"

Pinus sylvestris "sumo?" 2011 - grafting branches Dscf1123

Bend - Refine - Bend - Refine - HORROR and shock when he says "NO NO....." shaking his head looking for something. "too many Branches!" ..... SNIP SNIP, off come two unwated branches. I turned to look at Mirek who was sat watching with me, he made a small smile, and a slight shrug of the shoulder!! (Priceless!)

100% TRUST

Pinus sylvestris "sumo?" 2011 - grafting branches Dscf1124

The Finished Project - And a HUGE thank you to Pavel:-

Here are some close ups of the trunk and bark...

The tree was in the round plastic training pot for 4 yrs. extracted from that combed out and repotted into the slight larger (because of the square sides) training pot. It's looking quite happy.

:)

Found my self in the garden today... Found myself faced with wiring my Pine.

Peaceful in between the rain... To be continued another day, once full require and style completed I will try and post more photos!

Difficult following such a Pine Bonsai Pro as Pavel. But as progression goes this is looking good

Having not been able to make it to Burrs this year I made a point of styling my Pine the same weekend, at our club workshop.

Having input from other members of the club, I've managed to style it with Two Fronts... Please let me know your thoughts!

Front 1, and original side for the front:

Hello, I love the second front , where the movement of the nebari log and the interesting is perceived very well. I find along the first branch on the left, but on the whole a beautifulst plant, compliments. I hope understands my very bad English. Rolling Eyes

Pinus sylvestris "sumo?" 2011 - grafting branches Empty Re: Pinus sylvestris "sumo?" 2011 - grafting branches

Post  GašperG Wed Nov 14, 2012 9:55 pm

It took me some time to see how the trunkline goes on your first picture compared to the first styling. Although the second photo looks cleaner, i would shorten the lower jin and refine the left one to make the frame of the tree more obvious. - that way i would prefer first photo as a front. As i said, second one is cleaner and if that is the prefered front i would only shorten or twist the too long branch closer to the trunk, as it looks to stretched to me.
- But there will be plenty of time refining the tree.- Very Happy
Just my point of view Brian, you are doing good.

Took myself out to check on my trees... Checked over my pine and something about the image bugged me slightly.
A quick tweek of two branches sorted it.... Updating the image.

I think I can see how you could see a curved in lower branch GASPER... It can be factored into restyle No:3 ;)

Thanks for your comments.
