P. Thubergiana vs. P. Nigra Care Empty P. Thubergiana vs. P. Nigra Care

Can anyone explain to me the difference in care, culture and development between P. Thunbergii (Japanese Black Pine) and P. Nigra (Austrian Black Pine). It seems to me that the P. Nigra is both coarser and denser in its branching and foliage than P. Thunbergii. Some specific questions:
1. Do both species require the same annual pattern of care (spring/summer decandling, late autumn/early winter needle plucking)
2. Do both species have similar propensity (or lack thereof) for backbudding?
3. Are there any distinctively different traits between the two?

Tim, pine culture is basic to differentiating between single buds and multiple buds per year. Sometimes there are crossover techniques when growing out of zone. Mugo, Scots, Austrian can be treated as single budded or multiple depending on latitude or altitude. You are correct in coarseness though,so, Austrian make better large trees.
