Hornbeam suggestions?

Post  redvw5 on Sat Aug 15, 2009 6:57 pm

Just purchased a Korean Hornbeam from Meehans Miniatures at the Mid-American Bonsai show. I have never owned a hornbeam before but always appreciated the fall colors. I was a little rushed while shopping due to having to get to work quickly after show. I thought this could make a good raft. I know this is a slow way to go. Has anyone seen hornbeams in a raft style. My other option is to make it into a slanting style, or I could just grow it out to see what pops up in spring. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I have a hard time imagining what that tree is/was aimed at when it was started. I think I'd wait until all leaves were gone and then photograph the entire tree from a few different sides. Then we can see what's there.

The rootball is usually the main problem in creating a raft from an older tree.
