Tofukuji Pots - How to Tell Sr. from Jr.
I currently have a couple of Tofukuji Jr. pots and I am itching to get a Tofukuji Sr. (I am collecting funds for it). I want to know from an expert how to distinguish a Sr. pot from a Jr. pot. From what I understand is that Jr. used the same stamps as his dad, and generally his imprints are a little deeper.
I need to know a more clear way to distinguish them.
Thanks,
- S

I would suggest you contact Matt Ouwinga @ kaede bonsai. He has a nice collection of senior.

Aman,
The only way to tell for sure if a pot is a senior is style and patina, and this is still subjective. There are minute details, and quality differences, between them. Method of foot attachment, stamp impression, foot style, tool marks-these are good hallmarks. Either grab the pottery books and study like mad, or buy from reputable nurseries and sellers, Yorozuen, Matty O, Koju-En, Taisho-en, Toriumi, and sometimes I'll have a senior for sale as well.
