Crape myrtle - fall

That seems like early color for a crape, mine haven't even begun an I'm pretty far north. Wonder if it has to do with the particular cultivar? Which type is this? Nicely done, literati are difficult.

Mine have colored in Florida

This is L. indica 'rescued-from-the-yard.' <g>

I have several varieties and they all color up at different times. Those growing in my yard are still summer green.

BTW, I'm reasonably happy with the pot it is in. Others have said a shallower, round pot - blue or cream would be better. Thoughts?

I dunno, I kinda like the pot that it's in too. I would look for a glazed but one of the same general shape, but without the angles. I like the narrow tall shape, but I think a smooth rounded profile would do it for me...

This one stands 11 inches from the soil. Still under training. The top is a bit unruly.

I skipped a few of your trees, but now I have to say again - Ufffff, I like it a lot (in training or not) - ...that's all I have right now

I think a cream colored pot would really make the fall foliage colors pop!

I really like the second tree. If you ever get to the point where you start selling off your collection, put my name on that one :-)

Thanks all. Here's one more, with a little different color to it. This is my oldest crape myrtle. I've been calling it a bonsai since 1990, but only in the last few years has it deserved the name. Dug from the roadside after several years of mowing by the DOT. It stands 10 inches from the soil line.

I'm afraid these trees all have been pretty much ignored this year, but they're still being my friends and putting on a nice show this fall.

Probably the last one. They all have color now, but most are not very pictureworthy.

this one is nice also, all three of them are -- i like the light you arrange for the photo --makes smaller details more visible and trees greater

In all cases, the main light is the sun. In the first two, indoor, shots the sun comes in from the left through a set of glass doors. I have a fluorescent floodlight above the trees and a bit to the right for fill. In the last shot, the late afternoon sun came in over my left shoulder. The tree was held out in the sun while the house wall was in shade from an overhead porch.

Yeep, I see that now,... I tried indoor light from one side, but it threw a shadow on all the foligae - so additional source of light is needed to balance...makes perfect sense.. I'll go try make some like that...

I always associate you with crape myrtles Jim. Yours are great and you post a lot of pics of them. You clearly like them a lot. Was hoping to get good fall color pics of mine this year but was not to be.
