Well, keep spelling it with an "M" because that's the accepted spelling...shiMpaku, guMpo, etc...

For what it's worth, I put the same question to my teacher who was helping me with hiragana back in the Dark Ages: a-i-u-e-o, ka-ki-ku-ke-ko, the single sound/consonant "n". You're right, there aint no "m". Jonathan did a good job of explaining it...

Marcus would be "Ma-ku-ra-su", the u on the end would be phonetically very soft and hard to hear. Your name is easy, mine was extremely difficult.

"M" is combined with vowels... ma mi mu me mo, Ki-mu-ra. "N" is a single consonant, the sound changes to "M" when followed by "P". Kakejiku (Jonathan) explained it earlier....

Fyi, "bonsai" is the combination of 2 kanji characters. But if you saw it written out in katakana or hiragana it would be 4 syllables: bo-n-sa-i.

A few hours ago I received an email from a long time IBC friend.... telling me things like the ones below and another one posted by "biologist" leatherback...which some people cannot see without logging in and for me TALKING ABOUT PEOPLE without them knowing it is almost the same as stabbing people from the back.

Hey Dario, we don't need 100% of our ideals posted here....we just wanted to have fun in sharing to other IBC members some humble knowledge we accumulated for decades so that other people will also have fun while learning bonsai.


...Some people who left are just weary and resting, hoping that things here in IBC will return to "normal"
...Some people who left are just waiting for their fellow "old" members to comeback,,,maybe not to have a peeing contests to some newer over energized members, but just to wanted have fun. and have a civilized chitchat with old friends.
...Some people who left, were just too piss off, but were too nice and civilized to answer back.


Maybe for some members (specially for the new ones) they thought IBC were just a forum,,,"If you can't take us or too annoyed by us. just leave, period!" NO my friends, IBC was our family. We had here parents, older siblings, baby brothers and sisters...and most specially we have or had Respect.


...Some people who left, who read or who might received the same email and PM I got were more piss off now, and will find developments here like this an obstruction for coming back.

As for me I AM OUT for now,(hope to see you again in the near future or in some conventions) But one thing is certain,,,I respect you all no matter how old or young you are or how nice or annoying you are.

Not sure what point you are trying to make here? And if you are going to label members, please do so correctly. I prefer to see myself as a tropical ecologist, or even remote sensing specialist. Biologist is a bit vague, don't you think?

But I agree. It is not nice of your friend to start gossiping about the people here on IBC and the threads; I would not go as far as calling it 'stabbing people in the back' but it was a bit nasty. And if you were interested in what was happening, you would have seen so yourself, right?
