Japanse pots origin ?

Post  GriGri on Fri Oct 12, 2012 8:48 am

Hi all,

While visiting Kobayashi San's museum in Tokyo (Shunka-en). I bought the following 2 pots. Does someone recognize the chops ?

First Pot

2nd Pot

Thanks in advance

The first is Heian Kosen. Not sure about the second, I've never seen this chop before. There are literally hundreds of small and hobby potters in Japan, I come across at least 2 chops every week I've never seen before, and I'm familiar with around 600. If I see it again I'll report back!

Thanks Ryan,

The second one is really interesting , if you hit the pot it has almost a pure sound like hitting a crystal glass. According to Kobayashi San it is quite valuable but then again... you never know

Hi GriGri,
Give us the second pot's dimensions please. My bonsai friend expects it as Tokoname.

Unfortunately I couldn't identify this pot. My bonsai friend(actually she is a semi-professional pot maker) kindly asked many bonsai people
for this pot at an local exhibition near Tokoname but no one could give a decent answer.
However she told me that the chop could be read Tomi-hiro(冨洋) and she promised me to inform if she would find anything about it.

Thank you so much. Tell her not to go to too much effort though (I am happy with the pot no matter anyhow)
