HOW? And WHY?

I nearly put this in our critters section where we talk about dread insects, etc. This one gets creepier as you look harder at it. For the life of me I can't figure out why anyone would put this much effort into . . . THIS:

The word is ungepatchked. I've seen bonsai that look like that. Shibui is not fashionable these days.

I could see this being a really great teaching tool for introducing kids to music, and different ways to make sounds on stringed (including piano) instruments. It's very realistic with the motions using different techniques to make the sounds.

It is art like bonsai, it is not living art but art nevertheless. As you said it is done with much effort to make your vision a reality and if it makes people go wow, then it is all worthy. Thanks for posting btw.
