We gathered at about 9 am and began by setting up the tables within the display cases which are housed within a structure to protect from weather. About half a dozen members showed up and began the work which wrapped up around 1 pm.
table covers were ironed and the 34 pieces for display halfed to go into the two cases. The stones were first photograped to be put into a commenerative magazine and then began the process of grouping stones together for display. Any questions I'd be glad to answer.my suiseki club Img_2624my suiseki club Img_2625my suiseki club Img_2626

The suiseki group is part of Puget Sound Bonsai Association, and is expected in a few years maybe to step out on it's own.my suiseki club Img_2630my suiseki club Img_2631my suiseki club Img_2632

I wouldn't be human so to speak without doing a close-up to my contribution to the display. Nick-named "benbow Mountain" by my daiza maker, the name stuck and is used to referr to my lucky find. Smilemy suiseki club Img_2633my suiseki club Img_2634my suiseki club Img_2635

Thanks for the images. It is a shame you have to put everything behind glass.

Nice job of documentation Dick!
Behind glass makes me feel safe,... Suspect
and better able to display my special treasures.
Of course I once had a couple of guys use their pocket knifes,
to scratch test my stone for hardness,... affraid
and another my daiza to see if it was made of real wood!
I also was shocked to find a friends bronze okimono missing,
during a convention exhibit once in Northern California.

you don't know what you have till it's gone.....take paradise put up a parking lot.....was a DJ during the 60's and can't get some of the song lines out of my head Smile

lately i have been listening to Chihiro Onitsuka who is a song writer and vocalist in japan. I'm thinking of"borrowing" a line from one of her songs to make into konji for a shkishi board to use in a scroll for an alcove display of mine

The whirling sky is calling. with the loudest voice of all....

always appreciate getting favorable comments....makes it worth the time and effort to cover these events and then get them posted.
Tho "retired" now, it's just an extenstion of the 16 years I spent in newspaper, covering stories of interest for the community. 10 years before I did similar work in broadcasting...Smile If we go back three more years then you get me back into the Armed forces radio and TV service, where I spent my two years in japan and fell in love with the people and the culture.

It's a wonderful exhibit!! Most photos can't capture the spirit of every stone but these were very good.

How many of the stones have been collected by your group? Is there a pamphlet that describes the stones origins to visitors?

Having the stones behind glass makes sense; our Mother's Day show at the Como Conservatory in St.Paul has frustrated our stone group with little finger marks in the daiza sand.

Thanks for sharing....!!

You can see the glass plates in some of the photos. they ill have the business card sized info to inform owner's name, location where found. and japanese name of stone type and that translation.

Smile Kids do like to touch things as they learn heh?
