White Pine/needle drop
My large (expensive) white pine is dropping quite a number of needles,is this a natural occurance for this time of the year in the U.K ,or should I be worried. The overall appearance of the tree still seems fine at the moment.

This is Normal Colin. You are seeing the natural shedding of old needles. They go yellow on a JWP and drop around this time. Be tidy and remove them from the pot surface to avoid fungal issues and making places for beasties to hide over Winter.

Yes, as above, with low Nitrogen. 0-10-10 if you can get it or even tomato food or a light dressing of bone meal.

Re: White Pine/needle drop
As per advice from Julian Adams for Scots pine, I have fed my pines 12-55-10 from late August through October. Its a "bloom" booster. It has resulted in great back budding. But, it works best in cooperation with apply the right techniques at the right time ie pinching, terminal pruning, and bud removal.
Works great so far on my other pines as well.
Hope that helps.
