Hi everybody,
I have a arakawa maple graft and want to take some cuttings to make in to bonsai but have heard
That it could be quite hard for the cuttings to strike.
Can someone shed some light on the subject because i am very fond of arakawa but not to sure of
The propagation techniques involved.

They are easy to air layer. I've not been particularly succesful with cuttings of this variety. They usually fail in their first winter.

Hi marcin,
The only real place to get sound arakawa material from would be a good bonsai nursery.

Insufficient reserves for the young roots to support the burst of new growth in spring, I suspect. It could also be that the young white roots are more prone to rotting in their first winter.

It may be difficult to root, but like 'coralbark', it grows just fine on its own roots.
