Can anyone identify the origins of these Chinese prints recently seen on Facebook from a Malay source?

And are they old - or - were you told they were old?

correct it from Asia
This style of bonsai is Japanese or Chinese.
I think it is in Japan.

I collect Ukiyoe (Japanese woodblock prints) and while these could be Japanese, they have more of a Chinese feel to them to me.

Jim,

I agree with your assessment: more likely Chinese than Japanese. And they seem to me to be an older production, maybe mid 18th - 19th century.

I'm awaiting response from the folks at Asian Art Forums. Thanks for that reminder.

Interesting. TO ME neither tree looks Chinese, nor old style.

Yeah, they don't appear to be that old to me (but very hard to tell from a photo when the print is in good condition). I'd think they were fairly new productions.

The manner in which the trees are displayed, characters (both the writing and the gods depicted), as well as the style of the painting suggests Japanese to me...
