Hello!
I'm beginner in bonsai art, but I have many plants here at home where hopefully someday become bonsai.

As I live in Brazil, I try to use the trees that are easily found here.
And Eugenia spreingelli is an example of them. They are widely used for decoration as shrubs, among other things.
It has small leaves, and dense linear; inflorescences with numerous white flowers, small, spherical fruits, red, attractive to birds.

And a few days ago I bought a seedling of this species.
When I bought Eugenia, she was fully erect, and had a double trunk.
I removed one of the trunks, that was not the main to have a single trunk.

I did not finish in the trunk, just cut.

I thought about bending the trunk, and made a homemade bender trunk.
And I started to bend the Eugenia.

But like any good beginner one day I started to bend the trunk too.
I pressed more than I should nuts, and just gritting her trunk.

I put toothpaste to protect the cut.

after a few days with the trunk cracked, decided to make a sharimiki in her shell.
And looked like this:

put toothpaste again to protect, seen in bonsai sites that help heal the skin. The only problem is that it turns white for a while, but then goes slowly with water.

The break might add character to the tree but if you wanted to prevent the break you might wrap the trunk tightly with raffia or electrical tape to support it as it is bent. Actually wet raffia works best.

Hello Billy!
So, I honestly did not expect this would happen with the trunk.
But since it happened, I decided to withdraw a portion of the shell, and as you said, it gives a characteristic to the plant.
It was the first time I did it because I was afraid of and do go wrong.
But the crack of the trunk made me do the rest.
