Thank you for using a Cadbury's Creme Egg for scale - I am fed up of seeing lighters and cig packets!
I have a hedge full of ancient honeysuckle, and I'm currently carving a wonderful honeysuckle root my husband dug up, for use as driftwood base. I had never thought of using the old live plants with gnarled stems, so thanks for the inspiration, too.

A small amount of rooting hormone was added to the large severed roots before planting.
This will be one 'smelly' bonsai when its ripened enough as a bonsai to produce lots of flowers, but would you let it grow until it flowers? That means, long long shoots that destroy the image.
