Lagerstroemia Flowers-Any explanation?
Hello!
My crape myrtle prebonsai has been giving me away beautiful flowers!
But although the first flush have had the usual dark pink colour the second flush began with light pink and then quite white flowers.
Why does this happens?
Does anyone have an explanation?
Thank you.

That's new to me.
Do you know the cultivar you have?
Mine have refused to bloom for me this year.

OK, the plant bloomed, you pruned it back and it bloomed again, right, same stem just new growth?
What did you use for fertilizer. NPK plus what trace, what is the source of the NPK.
Sometimes the chemicals we feed plants can affect bloom color.
Did the light stay the same, I have a dwarf Bougie that has darker colors in the greenhouse under 60% shade than it does in Full sun.

The most common cause is a change in temperature. Excessive heat can cause washed-out colors.my nellie wrote:

I have a 7 inch tall miniature crape myrtle that is covered with buds & coming into bloom. I am waiting for it to be at its best before I post a picture.

I have 10 -15 growing around my yard. They're either done blooming or are doing it now.
These are my 8 bonsai crape myrtle. They usually bloom if I let them; they're all shohin and I have to let them get pretty ragged before they bloom, and most years I keep them trimmed. I let them go this year, but no blooms. It's no big deal. I'd guess that roots are just to danged hot. It's 9:30 a.m. and already 94 degrees.

Thank you all for responding.
The plant bloomed and then I have just cut the fruits off. I did not pruned it back. Second flush of bloom appeared on two other stems, different than those that bloomed at first.
The lighting conditions are the same.
The last few days temprerature fluctuates from 37 C to 40 C
No, I do not know the exact cultivar.JimLewis wrote:That's new to me.

Billy, I use the Nutrileaf 20-20-20 fertilizer but not as foliar application, I use it as ground feeding. Trace elements I read on the label: Boron, Copper, Iron, Manganese, Zinc (all as chelated), Molybdenum.Billy M. This is something that I did think about, dear Mrs. Iris.bonsaisr wrote: The most common cause is a change in temperature. Excessive heat can cause washed-out colors.

Re: Lagerstroemia Flowers-Any explanation?
Having seen those nice crape myrtles of Jim on another thread of his, I decided to come back on that crape myrtle of mine in need of your opinions.
The plant has not awaken this spring.
I have chopped it twice during the last two months, down to the point that the bark was still alive (green color when scratched). It is a stump about 10-12cm for now.
It is still holding to give new buds!
I have not discarded the tree, though... I am still hoping...
What do you think?
Am I hoping in vain?

Re: Lagerstroemia Flowers-Any explanation?
I have had, on occasion, years when one of my crape myrtle held off from sprouting leaves into early summer.
Just do not water too often. Let the soil get pretty dry. Without leaves it cannot transpire and the roots can't thrive in soggy soil.

Re: Lagerstroemia Flowers-Any explanation?
You Americans have a saying : Do not throw away anything before the 4th of July. Is this correct?
Well, the lagerstroemia has given 5 sprouts from its roots during last July. I knew it was alive!
Not a single bud from the trunk though....
