Fragrant Pears Empty Fragrant Pears

Out of curiosity, I planted seeds about 6 years from some Fragrant Pears I bought at a local supermarket and planted them. From what I've been reading, these trees (Pyrus ussuriensis) are grown mainly in a small part of northwestern China, in the region around Korla. I didn't know this at the time, but they're not supposed to be able to endure our winters in southern Ontario....someone should tell this (or not) to my trees, which are now about ready to dig up. They are actually pretty tough trees, from what I've seen.

Has anyone else tried this? I confess I have a small obsession with planting seeds from just about every type of fruit I find...sometimes I'm lucky and end up with some surprisingly good bonsai material.
