Sun burn or something else? Empty Sun burn or something else?

In the last 2 days, I've noticed some changes to the leaves of my American elm. Think you guys could take a look and tell me what you think?

That's not a sunburn, it looks like some type of larvae is munching on the second series of leaves. As for the first pic., I'm not sure if the leaf is dying off as a result of the same, or if it maybe in combination with something else.

I had something similar happen to a few of my maples and a korean hornbeam early this spring as a result of over fertilizing (mixed up my measuring a bit), not saying that is the case here but it definitely looks like similar damage.

Just went to go double check my diagnosis and I'd say you have a good case of Nitrogen toxicity. A little bit different then a true (i.e.. ammonia) fertilizer burn (but still considered a burn).

See the translucent dark green almost purple patches on the leaves? These then brown out and become those dead patches you have. The leaves wilt and droop then die back leaving only the midrib green as in your first pic.

If your American Elm is anything like mine it has stopped putting out new growth for the season and is either resting a bit in the heat, growing some roots, or getting ready to set next seasons buds. At this point flush the medium with clean water several times, put the tree in a shady spot (you probably have a root issue by this point as well) and don't fertilize for another 4-6 weeks.

Just let the plant recover.

Alright, thank you. I was just giving it regular miracle gro fertilizer, and I guess I just gave it too much trying to counteract the week of rain we had. It's the only one of the my trees that showed any signs of damage which is why I was confused.
