Hi Guys,

It's my first time here. Been a visitor but never posted. Just bought this massive Crab Apple. Done a bit of stump carving and tidying up but now I'm stuck. Where to go from here? Any comments / suggestions /virtuals would be much appreciated.

Regds,

FW

Hi F W. Carving on front looks good. Youve obviously done this before. Can you post a close up, looks very natural.

Lovely tree Faisal - great potential, and good to be working with a native tree. I'm increasingly coming down in favour of natives over imports. Nothing wrong with overseas material and I will continue to buy the odd piece. It just seems a shame when we have so many great trees to work with of our own. I hope the virtual makers get on the case for you and come up with some good options. Did you do the carving alongside the Carve Meister Mr Potter himself by chance?

Regards
Fiona

Trunk has excelent taper, really powerful. Reminds me of some of the big Trident Maples you see imported, but better as this is a native. Looks like the leader is lacking in 2 things though, bulk and side branches in a lower position. Might have to cut top back harder to promote back budding and then let leader grow unhindered for a few seasons.

I think you're right on the lower branches Will. Like you suggest, I will have to cut the top to promote back budding and select a new leader. Many Thanks.
