Cork Bark Nomenclature Empty Cork Bark Nomenclature

I am having a big controversy with the Morton Arboretum. Does anyone know for sure (with some evidence) exactly when the cork bark Chinese elm was introduced to the West (including Europe)?
Has anyone ever seen the name Ulmus parvifolia 'Suberosa' in any print publication printed before 1959 in any modern language? That includes books, magazines, catalogues, flyers, etc.

I read recently that in Australia, Ulmus Suberosa was listed in a landscape catalog dating back to 1848. I cannot find the source this morning though, will let you know when I do. Don't know when it got to Europe and America, though. Also same article referenced Australian school children who had planted a boulevard of Cork bark elms around the turn of the century.

Thanks, but that was more likely Ulmus propinqua var. suberosa, introduced from China. Japan was completely isolated until many years later.

Here is the link to cork elms planted in the US at the turn of the century, from Australia. Don't know if this will help you at all.

That is the same species mentioned above, Ulmus propinqua var. suberosa. Nothing to do with Chinese cork bark elm.
