Trip to Hawaii Empty Trip to Hawaii

Post  Billy M. Rhodes Wed May 16, 2012 10:33 pm

I will be visiting Hawaii in late July. Our base will be the Halie Koa (sp) on Oahu. We will visit the island of Hawaii for one day to look at the volcano. Nothing else is really planned. We will for sure do Pearl Harbor, the Arizona and the Missouri. I understand there is a big market in downtown Honolulu. Also a trip to the north shore. Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestion, I did a lot of that in Daytona Beach, 50 years ago.

Polynesian Cultural Center (Oahu - windward side) is worth a visit. If you can, Maui and Kauai are great visits.

Thanks Jim
I would like to go to other islands, but since I will be with a group of friends, I am limited in my freedom. Also with only seven days our options are limited. so far only Hawaii is on the list of other islands.

Hi Billy,
While in Oahu, check out Dragon Bonsai, owned by Walter and Ann Liew in Waimanalo:

They have a great exhibit of penjing, Chinese style trees.

On the Big Island, be sure to visit Fuku Bonsai with David Fukumoto in Kurtistown.

An great exhibit of tropical trees as part of the Hawaii Bonsai repository.

My wife and I spent our honeymoon in Hawaii (1990). We visited Maui and the big island, but our only time on Oahu was to change planes so I can't offer any suggestions there. Hawaii (big island) is definitely worth a visit. We toured Volcanoes national park (very neat place) and one evening drove down to the coast for a view of the lava pouring into the ocean. We were quite a distance away but it was a very impressive sight. One thing we regret - we didn't take a helicopter ride over the volcano. Did some snorkeling on the west coast.

We'd like to go back and visit Kauai...maybe some day!
