Douglas Fir in the ground

Hi. We have some douglas firs that are going to have to be pulled out of the ground. My friend thought they would make good bonsai, but I know nothing about it. What do I need to do to at least get them started?

Any chance for a photo of this spruce? Size and shape as well as condition/state of health may have a bearing on it's future.

Douglas fir is not spruce. Only visually. Needles are rubbery not sharp.

My mistake. Not sure why spruce was on my mind.

As long as you didn't say deciduous, I would never have caught it!
