Pinus sylvestris Empty Pinus sylvestris

Post  quatrefi Sun Oct 10, 2010 10:51 pm

Hello here are some pictures of a pinus sylvestris i've been working for five years.

It took me quite a long time to find out a good project for this tree, and i had to progress with my vision and techniques of bonsaï too.
The tree has this strange movement, and i had several project, but now i'm (quite) decided.

Here is the tree when i bought it :

Pinus sylvestris Pinmei10
Pinus sylvestris Post-612

A drawing of the project i decided to do.

Pinus sylvestris Post-613

A shaping Two years ago.

Pinus sylvestris Rimg0013

An other one in the beginning of the year :

Pinus sylvestris Pict0010

And the last one, with a virtual design of what the tree could look like.

Pinus sylvestris P1010814
Pinus sylvestris L10

I'm waiting for your opinions...

quatrefi,

its a lovely design. with the not so heavy trunk appearance of the trunk of your pine your future objective can easily be done.

good luck!

jun Very Happy

Quatrefi,

Your design objective is clear. However and looking at your future plan, you will need to bend the upper portion of the tree to the left in order to bring it closer to the bottom branches. I believe that this will bring your vision closer to conclusion.

Kind regards and good luck,

Jose Luis

Thanks Jun, yes the trunk is quite easy to bend !

Jose Luis, at the beginning i had the idea to bend the upper portion to the right to put it at the vertical of the beginning of the trunk for the tree to have more stability.
But i changed my mind and i'm bending it to the left to have a better trunk movement and to be near the bottom branches like you said.
I'll see the general equilibium when i'll repot it.

Thanks
JF

I see You've repotted Your pine, but You probably still couldn't use a smaller pot. I'm looking forward to the pot in right proportions - the empty spaces under the tree will help the design a lot. I would turn the whole tree to the right a little, then bring the apex back to the left and restyle green growth accordingly to Your project. Just a little thought of the horizontal part of the trunk...

Good progress so far.

Is it possible to bend the trunk as shown by the red line?

Pinus sylvestris Scot_p10

A bet a Benda pot would make it look better!

your drawing is brilliant - i think to get the tree moving towards it the middle area needs sorting out - the real tree has the curved trunk in front of itself so no space, the drawing has the perfect space between the curving trunk - and the all important area of foliage that needs training from the back also -

i think the foliage will develop better in the bigger pot you have it in though - no need to rush it into a smaller pot yet.

nice tree and a good future ahead for it I think

Hello, thanks for your answers.
Tom--i didn't feel like directly putting it in a very small pot, yes it will improve the tree very much.
Rob--I'm gonna try to bend it like this, but i need to secure it firmly in the pot and to use a long iron bar to have strength. Otherwise what is a benda pot?
Marcus--Yes that space (under the curved trunk) should be bigger, in fact when i did repot it, i did change it's angle (bending the tree toward the observer) and made (by mistake) this space smaller. I can either try to find a better plantation angle by transpotting it lightly, or bending and raising this part with an iron bar too (it will make a lot of iron bars along the trunk...)

Good luck with the bend.

And speaking of bends, Very Happy Tom Benda, a friend from the Czech Republic, makes great pots for pine trees. Check him out (no pun intended) on the IBC Pots web page. He calls his kiln SANSEI.

Thanks, i did take a look at the pine this morning, the bend will be interesting.

The pots are wonderful, i'll check the web site.

The sketch is not exactly from Hervé, here is the sketch he did (at that time he was working for a french bonsaï newspaper and you did send a photo and he would design a project).

Pinus sylvestris Rimg0010

I did draw my project on photoshop based on his and changing a few things.
He's great inspiration for me a real excellent bonsaï artist and a graphic designer and illustrator too.
Check his blog :
http://dorarv.blogspot.com/

We also did comics together (i did the scenario) and one talks about bonsaï it's called "Le fou de bonsaï" that could be translate as "the bonsaï maniac" the story of a bonsaï enthousiast losing his mind and going to japan for a crazy trip. We are still looking for an editor if you know one Very Happy

Here are two pages.
